Currently Dr. Marshak is the CMO of the original management team (Integrity Healthcare, LLC) that approached the Daughters of Charity Health System (DOCHS), a $1.5 billion, six-hospital health system in CA, in April 2015 to buy or manage the health system. Integrity was selected by DOCHS in July 2015 as winning bidder. The deal closed on December 14, 2015, after CA Attorney General approval, and the name was changed from DOCHS to Verity Health System (Verity).
During the first eighteen months of operations, Integrity implemented over $160 million of turnaround initiatives at Verity, improving the operating margin improvement from a loss in 2016 of $97 million to a loss of $37 million in 2017. The 2018 Board-approved operating budget for Verity is a gain of $140 million.
Dr. Marshak was responsible for recruiting over 475 physicians to both the hospital system medical staffs and over 75 to the Verity Medical Foundation as employed physicians . He has participated in both for profit and nonprofit healthcare/hospital ventures.
Dr. Marshak holds a MD Degree from the University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. He is Board Certified in the field of Internal Medicine and is a Diplomat if the American Board of Internal Medicine. His training was at UCLA/Wadsworth VA Medical Centers Internal Medicine program. He has served on numerous boards of community hospitals and hospital and physician joint ventures. Dr. Marshak has mentored many physician executives in his role as managing partner and Chief Medical Officer. He has given multiple lectures in the private and public sectors of Health Care across the country.
