Dr. Jill uses functional medicine to help her patients discover what nutritional and biochemical imbalances may have been making them feel ill using the least invasive means possible.
Dr. Jill’s passion for functional medicine arose from her own experience as a patient. During her third year of Medical School at Loyola University of Chicago in 2001, Dr. Jill found an unusual lump on her left breast. Her diagnosis revealed an invasive ductal carcinoma. Suddenly, the Dr. became the patient, and Dr. Jill began a grueling year of treatment which included 3 surgeries, 6 rounds of chemotherapy, and radiation. After that year, Dr. Jill emerged completely bald, malnourished, and down to my lowest weight since she was fourteen years old. Though her body was weak, Dr. Jill remained driven towards her recovery. By the summer of 2002, Dr. Jill had beaten cancer, but the treatments nearly destroyed her body in the process.
The following year Dr. Jill was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, and her gastroenterologist told her that her only options were surgery and lifelong medication. Refusing to accept that she could not heal her body, Dr. Jill began applying the principles of functional medicine to her own healing. She found relief through nutritional supplementation, daily exercise, and spirituality. She now lives cancer and Crohn’s free, and works to help her patients reach their own wellness goals.
