National Baby Safety Month

Genexa Genexa 2016-09-09 11:54:00 -0700

September is National Baby Safety Month, which promotes the use of registering baby products and learning more about important safety recalls. According to the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), product registration is the number one way to effectively manage recalls and ensure your baby is using the safest products. In honor of this awareness month, we’re sharing tips you can implement right away to keep your baby safe.

  • Make sure your car seat is installed properly. Every seat is different and will have a different fit depending on your car. If you’ve never installed a car seat or want to double check that you’ve done it properly, you can swing by your local fire station and have them do a quick check for you free of charge.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to the surfaces you put your baby seat or carrier on. Babies move around a lot and high surfaces can be quite dangerous if a baby carrier falls to the ground.
  • Baby carriers that you wear on your body can also be quite dangerous. Practice putting on the carrier and taking it off with a partner to make sure the baby is securely fastened in. The carrier brand’s website should have helpful resources to help you make sure you’re fastening it correctly, and you can always call to get more information if needed.
  • We love our pets and we love our kids, but sometimes they don’t love each other, at least not right away. When you bring your newborn home make sure you never take your eye off your babies and pets as they meet one another. There are proper ways to introduce a pet to a baby, and you can visit the Humane Society for more tips and tricks.
  • First aid should be your first priority. A lot can happen in a few seconds and you should be prepared. Learn how to do infant and child CPR and take a choking training class. You can always call an emergency number but in an emergency scenario, having some life-saving moves under your belt is crucial.
  • Sleeping and bathing safety are also top priorities for new parents. If you place your baby in your bed for sleeping, you should know which ways a baby can share a bed with an adult safely. The same goes with bathing. There are rights and wrongs, and wrong moves can be extremely dangerous.
  • If you need to use medication to treat the symptoms of your child's sickness, use natural medicine for kids. Genexa's line of children's medicines are tested and safe for your baby!
