Get Rid of Germs at Home

Genexa Genexa 2016-11-14 14:12:00 -0800

The word “germs” conjures up images of scary, green-eyed monsters living on your countertops. The invisible microbes are everywhere, and many of them can make us sick. Before you get too freaked out, no, you do not need to take your family to live in a sterile bubble for the rest of your life. But it is important to make sure you’re covering all the bases when it comes to cleaning your home.

Surprisingly Germy & Dirty Places

We were surprised to learn that some of the “dirtiest” places might actually appear to be clean! And some of the places we’ve avoided touching aren’t really that bad. Let’s take a tour of the house and we’ll show you the dirtiest offenders and what you should do about it:

The Kitchen Sink

Yes, that’s right. You’re probably thinking, “but I wash all my dishes in there! And my produce! How could it be dirty?” That’s exactly why it is dirty. The kitchen sink is the catch-all for cleanup and contains a plethora of bacteria that can make you very sick.

Think about it...if you clean up a pet mess on the carpet and rinse out the rag, where do you do? The kitchen sink. When you’re rinsing off the cutting board after cutting raw chicken, where does all that chicken juice go? The kitchen sink.

Rinsing the sink with water isn’t enough; you need to sanitize it just like you would the toilet bowl! Turn on some hot water and bust out your favorite natural disinfectant spray. Don’t forget to wash the drain stopper!

The Remote Control

Your TV remote control is disgusting. It gets passed from hand to hand and who knows what those hands were touching before. We don’t even want to think about all of the germs living on the remote controls in hotel rooms. Yuck! It only takes a few seconds to wipe down the remote with a natural disinfecting wipe. If you commit to doing this once a day, you will significantly reduce the presence of bacteria on a household item that everyone comes into contact with.

Your Computer Keyboard

This is another item you use everyday, and you probably don’t wash your hands before every use. The germs from other items you touch are living on those keys, and each finger stroke puts you into contact with bacteria that could make you sick. Stick to the same cleaning schedule as the remote control and wipe down the keys once a day.

The Bathtub

This is another confusing one, right? You use the bathtub to keep yourself clean, so why would it be dirty? All the dirt and bacteria you wash off your body goes onto the sides of the tub, and if you don’t clean it regularly, it has opportunity to breed. Many natural products companies make a bathtub spray that you can use daily. Commit to cleaning and disinfecting the bathtub, including all hardware, once per week.
